The unseeded Sevastova downed U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka in the semifinal, but couldn't handle the second-seeded Wozniacki's punishing groundstrokes.

Naomi Osaka admitted she has been "stressed out" by living up to her US Open win after losing in the China Open semi-finals.

"I did everything that I can to be better for the final, it wasn't enough time to feel 100 percent", the 30-year-old said.

Earlier, Ekaterina Makarova of Russian Federation and Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko had also withdrawn from the tournament due to a schedule change and low back injury, respectively.

Goerges fought her to deuce at 3-0, but failed to convert either of her break point opportunities to go 4 set points down and allow Osaka to run away with the proceedings on court from there.

Raced into an early lead against an unusually erratic Osaka, who had won 24 of her previous 28 games.

Sevastova, who dashed Osaka's hopes of reaching a third straight final, will face either Danish second seed Caroline Wozniacki or Chinese wildcard Wang Qiang on Sunday.
