Psy-Group created several secretive proposals for the Trump campaign at the behest of Rick Gates, who has since pleaded guilty and offered to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into foreign meddling in the U.S. election, The New York Times reported.

Rick Gates, a longtime political consultant who once served as President Donald Trump's deputy campaign chairman, in 2016 sought plans from an Israeli company to use social media digital manipulation and to gather intelligence on primary challengers on Hillary Clinton that would have been used to gain an edge in the presidential election, The New York Times reports. The third and final proposal sought to use social media to amplify divisions within rival campaigns, while amplifying those division using fake social media accounts.

There was no evidence that the Trump campaign followed through on the proposals to use social media manipulation and intelligence gathering. One caveat: It appears that the Trump campaign did not use any of the proposals.

Donald Trump Jr reportedly met with an Israeli intelligence firm that offered the Trump campaign a plan to create fake social media profiles and gather "intelligence dossiers" on Hillary Clinton.

Gates ultimately rejected the company's social media campaigns, according to the Times.

Another proposal described opposition research and "complementary intelligence activities" about Clinton, according to the report.

The August 3 Trump Tower meeting is a focus of the ongoing investigation by Robert Mueller, the special counsel, who was tasked a year ago with examining possible cooperation and coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation in the lead-up to the election.

Zamel's lawyer tells the Times that the Trump Tower meeting was cursory. What makes things even more suspicious is that Nader also met with Donald Trump August 2016 at Trump Tower to offer his assistance to the campaign. Robert Mueller and the Special Counsel's office are now investigating these proposals according to the New York Times. "He was not interested and that was the end of it".
