Village Rockstars has been picked as India's official entry in the Foreign Language film category for Oscars 2019. At the 65th National Film Awards earlier this year, the 87-minute drama also won four awards - for Best Feature, Best Editing, Best Location Sound Recordist and Best Child Artist. The announcement was made by the Film Federation of India (FFI) on Saturday.

About its India release Rima Das said, "After travelling to many film festivals across the world and winning hearts, I am so delighted that the exciting journey of Village Rockstars has come to its final stage when we prepare with nervous anticipation and hope to present the film to the audiences in our homeland". Rima Das expressed her joy on Twitter this afternoon after the news broke that her film has been selected for Oscars 2019.

Village Rockstars was shot in Das's native village of Chhaygaon and most of the cast members are non-actors from the village, including her niece Bhanita Das who plays Dhunu. In a world where nearly every step taken by females is questioned, 10-year-old Dhunu (Bhanita Das), who belongs to a remote village in Assam, wants to make a name for herself in the world of music.

Tiger Woods 'proud' of season, eyes $10M FedEx Cup bonus

Hog deaths, manure flooding from Florence seen surpassing 2016 hurricane
The town has largely been cut off by flooding from the still-rising Lumber River, which was expected to crest on Wednesday. That would put water levels about 2 feet higher than the river's level just two years ago during Hurricane Matthew .

In the film, Dhunu's family that consists of her widowed mother Basanti and her elder brother Manabendra, represents the life of the villagers.

For the 2018 Oscars, Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi starrer Newton had been pitched for the top honour. And it remains to be seen if it will make it to the 91st Academy Awards. However, the Amit Masurkar film failed to make the cut.

Selected as India's nomination in Best Foreign Language Film category, the decision was taken by a jury of 12 members led by Mr Rajendra Singh Babu.
