Amazon Storefronts launched in United Kingdom and Germany

Amazon is thinking small for a change. More than 20,000 small retailers surpassed $1 million in sales on Amazon during 2017.

While only a select few businesses are now included in Storefronts, Amazon will be adding new categories and expanding Storefronts over time.

Amazon has announced Amazon Storefronts for customers in the USA with the aim of helping small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) sell their goods through Amazon. In 2017, more than 300,000 USA -based small and medium-sized businesses started selling on Amazon.

To support the launch of Storefronts, Amazon is also debuting its first-ever national television commercial, featuring real businesses that sell on Amazon and showing how they get their products to customers all over the world.

"Since we started selling on Amazon in October 2016, our sales have almost doubled".

They're billed automatically through their Amazon accounts, and they don't need to wait in line to pay for their purchases. A 3,000-store footprint would catapult Amazon into the ranks of America's major physical retail chains.

Amazon has launched a page to showcase small-and-medium-sized U.S. businesses that sell on Amazon, called Storefronts. A report from the Institute for Local Self-Reliance argued in 2016 that Amazon's expansion should be viewed as encroachment - it's left many businesses no choice but to join the platform as a third-party seller. Kicking off the site's launch is The Little Flower Soap Co., which sells handmade soap from MI. One of the main sellers Amazon is highlighting in the campaign, Michigan-based soap shop The Little Flower Soap Co. Products on Storefronts come from nearly 20,000 different small and medium businesses, according to CNBC.

Being part of Amazon Storefronts has positives and negatives for participants.

In May, Amazon argued it was good for small businesses in its Small Business Impact Report. Storefronts was only announced on September 17, so as this story develops, details will likely emerge on how to work with Amazon to have your products featured in the Storefronts section.

Amazon is huge, but those small businesses have other options, including other marketplaces like eBay, or building their own sites and using something like Shopify to power them, or foregoeing [sic] "traditional" e-commerce routes altogether.
