Who will be next after 'brave' Manafort pulls a U-turn on Trump?

In August, Manafort's attorneys filed a motion requesting the trial be moved from Washington to Roanoke, Virginia.

It has been reported that Mr Trump's legal team is quite relaxed about Manafort's change of heart, believing that there is very little he can tell Mueller's team.

Prosecutors allege that Manafort illegally lobbied on behalf of the Ukrainian government after failing to register as a foreign agent and laundered over $30 million from his business and evaded over $15 million in taxes.

And with Trump's approval rating falling in recent weeks, and Mueller's improving, it doesn't appear the president has the public on his side.

In court on Friday, Manafort stood stock still before the judge, answering her questions with single words in a low tone, or sat at the defence table.

When Manafort eventually goes for sentencing, the agreement notes that Mueller will let the court know how much Manafort did or did not cooperate. Presidential personal counsel Rudy Guiliani hinted that unlike another "flipper", Michael Cohen, who Guiliani has called a "scumbag", Manafort continues to enjoy favored status in the White House.

During his hearing at Manattan Federal Court, Cohen's lawyer told the court that he had made that payment on Trump's orders, despite previous denials that he had done no such thing.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is expected to plead guilty to federal charges as part of a deal with the special counsel's office.

As part of the deal, Mr Manafort, 69, could be required to cooperate with Mueller's probe into Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election and whether Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow.

A month ago, Manafort was found guilty in Alexandria, Va., on five tax fraud charges, one count of hiding foreign bank accounts, and two counts of bank fraud.

Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort will cooperate with the federal investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, after months of refusing to do so.

According to that report, Trump had initially picked former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) as his running mate, but Manafort "had another idea in mind".

In February, a USA federal grand jury charged 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies with plotting to interfere in the 2016 us presidential election.

The charges include conspiracy against the United States and conspiracy to obstruct justice. The president agreed to wait at least until the investigation concludes, Giuliani has said. He is also accused of tampering with witnesses in the case. Patten worked with Manafort's Russian associate Kilimnik through 2017 and admitted in court to illegally using a straw purchaser to buy Trump inaugural tickets for an oligarch. He had pleaded guilty in October to lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents about the timing and significance of his contacts, including a professor who told him the Russians had "dirt" on Trump's Democratic presidential rival, Hillary Clinton.
