Three cases of West Nile Virus reported in Arkansas

A central MS county is reporting its first case of West Nile virus, bringing the state's total to 31 cases so far this year.

Mosquitos from a trapping station tested positive for the potentially deadly virus August 29.

The majority of people infected with West Nile virus do not develop any symptoms.

No human cases are being reported. Symptoms range from slight headache and low-grade fever to welling of the brain tissue and in rare case, death.

West Nile virus can be spread to people through bites from infected mosquitoes, but it is not contagious from person to person.

Drain standing water in flower pots, pet dishes or clogged gutters so mosquitoes don't have a place to breed, and treat water that can't be drained.
