Nintendo Switch Online service launches September 18

The delay threw a wrench in some of Nintendo's announcements.

Nintendo has revealed new games and a new control method for the NES games on Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo announced new wireless NES controllers today as an exclusive for subscribers of the Switch's online service.

The Switch's library has quickly become a rival of those of the Xbox One and the PS4, despite being much younger and having been developed by Nintendo, which has historically struggled with third party appeal. These will include Super Mario Bros, Ice Climbers, and the original Legend of Zelda. You can make use of a seven-day free trial by signing up on the Nintendo eShop starting September 18. There will also be cloud-based saves.

This will be especially important if you have multiple Switch profiles in your house, such as those for children and other family members. Nintendo Switch Online, as it's called, will be launching on September 18, and beginning on that date, you'll need to pay a subscription fee in order to play games online.
