Florence is moving over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda and the Bahamas today, and is expected to approach the coast of North Carolina or SC in the hurricane warning area on Friday. It's estimated that 1 million people will be impacted by Florence's arrival. This storm is likely to impact our weather by late Sunday into Monday.

The governor of Georgia has declared a state of emergency after forecasts showed Hurricane Florence possibly taking a south-west turn.

More than 485,000 homes and businesses were without power in North and SC early on Friday, utility officials said. "In light of the storm's forecasted southward track after making landfall, I encourage Georgians to be prepared for the inland effects of the storm as well as the ensuing storm surge in coastal areas".

Despite all that, 65-year-old Liz Browning Fox plans to ride the storm out in the Outer Banks village of Buxton, North Carolina, despite a mandatory evacuation order.

Should other states request storm-related assistance from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, GEMA would in turn ask its Athens counterpart if the county could lend a hand by sending supplies or personnel to storm-ravaged areas.
