Google is shutting down Inbox in March

An announcement that, we should note, also comes just a few months after Google released an all-new feature-packed Gmail app earlier this year.

After launching their Gmail alternative Inbox in October 2014, Google has today announced they're killing off the innovative client in favour of concentrating on Gmail proper. But as a user experience, as then senior VP Sundar Pichai explained in a blog post, Inbox was "designed to focus on what really matters".

Inbox was Google's effort at email innovation in a mobile-centric era, and with its departure, we could see another prolonged period of Gmail stagnation. All of this was capped with the grand redesign of the Gmail website in April, which, in hindsight, appeared to be the final nail in the coffin for Inbox, despite Gmails new coat of paint leaving out bundled email options like Trips, Purchases, and Finances.
