Egyptian man arrested for having breakfast with woman in Saudi Arabia

That is, at least when compared to a lovely parcel of oil wonderland named Saudi Arabia where women can not even show their faces in public. The video shows the woman, who is wearing a full niqab, picks up a piece of food and puts it in his mouth.

A man has been arrested in Saudi Arabia after a video was posted of him sharing breakfast with a woman.

In a video widely shared on social media, the pair can be seen eating breakfast at a desk and waving at the camera.

A number of videos have recently circulated on social media allegedly showing women and men breaching the kingdom's strict cultural norms.

Girls folk are also no longer allowed to head about many actions with out being accompanied by a male guardian - in most cases a male relative. Towards the end, the woman appears to feed the man which irked people who lambasted the man on social media.

The Egyptian national was arrested on Sunday evening and charged by Saudi authorities with failing to adhere to government regulations that stipulate Saudi Arabia's policy of gender-segregation in the workplace.

The authorities have accused the man of failing to respect the country's values and traditions.

"He [The Egyptian man] was punished, while the Al Saud princes who embrace women and spend money looted from the people go unpunished".

In no time, the Arabic hashtag which meant "an Egyptian having breakfast with a Saudi" was used more a lakh times on Twitter.

While another Egyptian user, Sonia, called it a result of "fragile egos" amongst Saudi men.

Television presenter Osama Gaweesh said he was confused with the arrest, asking: "Doesn't [Saudi Crown Prince] Mohammed bin Salman want a new, open Saudi Arabia with concerts and movie theatres and beaches and a 2030 vision?"
