Jake Seminara, a Steubenville High School graduate, and fellow crewmembers celebrate Brad Keselowski's Monday win in the Brickyard 400.

Then he safely and strategically bumped his way into the lead and sped to the finish line. "I hate that the cars that caused the caution had nothing to do with this race".

His first win 25 Cup tries at his favorite racing venue came on one of the rare days he wasn't actually attending in the pits for the rain-delayed race.

Justin Allgaier has won the Xfinity Series race that kicked off a NASCAR doubleheader at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The contract confirms the No. 1 Chevrolet will be open at the end of this season, but Ganassi declined to comment on signing free agent Kurt Busch.

And he earned this one the hard way.

"I had the race pretty well in hand and guys wrecked for no apparent reason and then we just got roughed up by the 2 there (Keselowski) on new tires".

Instead, his chances went away after a caution with six laps to go for a crash between Landon Cassill and Jeffrey Earnhardt. The two cars touched a handful of times as they raced for the lead, and Keselowski finally surged ahead with a little more than one lap remaining.

"We had the fastest vehicle but we just kept fumbling there and having stuff go wrong". "That allowed all the guys who take tires to come back up there at the end".

Packers taking it day by day with Aaron Rodgers
It's not a setback, McCarthy said, and Rodgers' injury is still being dealt with on a day-by-day basis. Wearing a brace could be an option, depending on how the quarterback feels later in the week.

Kyle Busch claimed the regular-season championship while Jimmie Johnson and Alex Bowman secured the final two playoff spots as well.

Erik Jones of Joe Gibbs Racing finished second, while Hamlin slipped to third in the No. 11 Gibbs Toyota.

The other drivers competing for the championship: Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Joey Logano, Bowyer, Kyle Larson, Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Jones, Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola and Keselowski.

His race came to a halt in the first stage when his Toyota blew a right brake rotor and Truex crashed. A few hours later, the Cup race started with temperatures in the mid-60s.

"It's always nice when you can finish better than you think you are going to", Erik Jones stated following his closing laps charge to a second place finish, "I thought maybe we had an eighth place auto and we just executed well and staying out at the end, the crew left it up to me and I made a decision to stay out, and when it happened I thought we were in a bad spot with all those guys taking tires behind us but the vehicle actually got better and better all day and it actually fired off really good on the last restart and we were able to have a shot".

Clint Bowyer has won the first stage of the Brickyard 400.

Tyler Reddick finished second, Ryan Blaney was third and Chase Elliott fourth.

Inclement weather also canceled practice and qualifying for both series, meaning all drivers were scheduled to be driving around the historic 2.5-mile for the first and only time this week Monday.

Matt Kenseth took the second stage when several drivers in the lead pack chose to pit before the third and final stage. "All I care about is not winning this race", said Hamlin, who sought to add an Indianapolis victory to the crown jewel wins he's scored in the Daytona 500 and Southern 500. Kurt Busch, Bowyer's teammate at Stewart-Haas Racing, finished second in the stage.
