Naomi Osaka's family members and mentors expressed a flurry of emotions following her September 9 (Japan time) victory over Serena Williams in the U.S. Open tennis tournament final.

The second set went into a tie-breaker but Djokovic maintained composure to close it out and make sure he lifted a US Open trophy in his eighth final in NY. It came as Djokovic smashed a championship-winning forehand.

"When I had my surgery I could truly understand what Juan Martin was going through when he had surgeries that kept him away from the tour for two or three years", added Djokovic. But supported by a dozen or so friends from back home, whose "Ole!" choruses rang around the arena, he climbed up the rankings to a career-high No. 3 by thundering his 100 miles per hour (160 kph) forehands and 135 miles per hour (215 kph) serves. She beat Serena Williams in Saturday's controversial women's final, while Williams rose 10 spots to No. 16. He fell to the ground on the spot after a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Ever since being stretched to four sets in his second round against Tennys Sandgren, Djokovic did not drop a set, demolishing the likes of Federer-slayer John Millman, Kei Nishikori and del Potro en route to the top step of the podium. I feel like these guys, rivalries with these guys, matches with Federer and Nadal, have made me the player I am, have shaped me into the player I am today. Federer, another favorite here and the No. 2 seed, was ousted in the fourth round.

A season that started gloomily with elbow surgery after the Australian Open is turning into a brilliant finish for the 31-year-old Serb who has now won three of his last four events including back-to-back majors at Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows. But when Djokovic faced three break points in the following game, an epic that required 22 points to settle, he saved them all. He now trails Roger Federer's record of 20 by six and is just three behind Rafael Nadal for second all-time. Tough thing for a chair umpire to deal with, as well. "Today I really am".
