In return, Boston acquires defenseman - and one-time Bruin - Steven Kampfer, along with a 2019 fourth-round pick and a conditional seventh-round pick.

The 6-foot-4, 212 pound defenseman made his first National Hockey League appearance with the Bruins in 2009-10. "He was a tremendous Bruin, a tremendous teammate". In 2010-11, the same year the team won the Stanley Cup, McQuaid became a mainstay on the back end.

"It's a very hard day", Boston general manager Don Sweeney said.

General manager Don Sweeney and head coach Bruce Cassidy on Tuesday both expressed how hard it was to move the 31-year-old, and it appears the sentiment is shared amongst the players, especially those who played with McQuaid for a long time. "We want to thank Adam".

Enrique, too, gave a glowing report on the man he has decided will continue with the captain's armband under his tenure. The game on Saturday was England's first since their incredible campaign at the World Cup in Russian Federation .

McQuaid played in all 12 of his team's playoff games, getting 13:19 per while recording a goal and assist while the Bruins were knocked out in the second round by Tampa Bay. Giving up picks for a replaceable depth player doesn't make sense to me unless the Rangers see him in a bigger role this year.

The veteran defenseman was traded to the Rangers on Tuesday. A fourth-round pick (No. 93) by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2007 NHL Draft, Kampfer has 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) in 166 games with the Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers and Rangers.

Kampfer, 29, has played for Boston, Minnesota, Florida and NY in his 166-game National Hockey League career.
