Despite being available to face Watford on Saturday, Shaw is not expected to face them as he will have been unable to train with Jose Mourinho's squad.

Only days before, Shaw had opened up on the horror story of his broken leg, which he admitted he was close to having amputated and forced him to consider retiring from the game at just 23 years old.

Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw was stretchered off 54 minutes into the UEFA Nations League match against Spain on Saturday with what the English FA has called a concussion.

The left back was seen driving himself into United's Carrington training base on Tuesday as he looked to find out the extent of his nasty head injury suffered on the weekend.

The Manchester United fullback took to twitter to thank all those who showed support and concern while he was still unconscious, saying, "Thank you for all the love and support".

Shaw appeared to have struck his head against Carvajal's body, forcing him down to the ground where he received treatment, including oxygen.

Left-back Chilwell replaces Shaw while forward Gray could replace United's Marcus Rashford who also picked up a knock against Spain. "He's talking and seems fairly comfortable", Southgate said. "We'll have to assess him a bit more, but that's definitely a good sign".
