In his newest letter to President Donald Trump's legal team, Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now offering that Trump submit written answers on questions of his campaign's possible conspiring with Russian Federation to interfere with the 2016 election, according to a Tuesday New York Times report.

Robert Mueller testifies before the House Judiciary Committee hearing on Federal Bureau of Investigation oversight on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, U.S., June 13, 2013.

Mueller is wary that the Trump's legal team may use executive privilege to shield the president from answering questions about obstruction of justice - another avenue of the inquiry.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Mueller made the concession in a letter to Trump's private lawyers.

"We continue to maintain an ongoing dialogue with the office of the special counsel", Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow said, adding that it was the legal team's policy to not discuss its communications with the special counsel's office.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment.

President Trump's top personal lawyer said Tuesday that his legal team is still deciding whether to "accept the proposition" of responding to the special counsel's request for written answers regarding the Russian Federation investigation. In March, Mueller raised the prospect of subpoenaing Trump if he refused to be questioned voluntarily.

Mr. Trump's legal team has not seen the questions from the special counsel.

The AP writes, "The move by Mueller comes after he has issued two lengthy indictments detailing Russian efforts to interfere in the presidential campaign".

Mueller first indicated to Trump's lawyers in December 2017 that he wanted to interview the president in a face-to-face session to complete his investigation.

"Let's just step back for a minute and consider the fact that Trump is trying to appoint to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court while simultaneously being implicated in a truly staggering number of criminal cases and corruption scandals", Seth Meyers said on Late Night.
