It's noted that additional details about the game, including launch and beta details, will be revealed a bit later.

The game is in development at Echtra Games and led by former Runic Games and Blizzard North co-founder, Max Schaefer. It's coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Developed by Etchra and published by Perfect World, Torchlight Frontiers is a shared-world action-RPG that will take place in the same universe as the previous Torchlight games.

A brand new Torchlight is in the works, despite original developer Runic Games shutting down a year ago.

Torchlight Frontiers

This is undoubtedly great news, as the original developers of Torchlight, Runic, shut down around nine months ago. Publisher Perfect World Entertainment didn't deny the existence of a sequel, but it seemed likely that it would pass over the Diablo-inspired game to focus on other projects.

Set in the same universe from Torchlight I and II, this shared-world action-RPG brings back numerous franchise's signature features and mechanics. "We continue to be amazed by the sheer level of talent and wealth of experience that they bring to Torchlight Frontiers", says Im.

One of the main new ways in which Torchlight Frontiers is evolving compared to the original games is in its shared world. The shared world part points to an online only game with persistent servers and procedurally generated worlds. You go out on an adventure, you kill monsters, and you find loot.

No gameplay is shown in the Torchlight Frontiers trailer. "The team is building something truly special, and we can't wait for fans to play it for the first time at gamescom and PAX West".
