North, South Korea hold military talks amid USA plan to stop drills

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly said he was open to dialogue with Japan during Tuesday's summit in Singapore with US President Donald Trump.

The US has insisted its alliance with Seoul - which has always said the drills are essential - is "iron clad".

"People are shocked", he continued.

President Donald Trump raised eyebrows again during the course of praising North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un Friday morning. "For example you could probably have them give up their nuclear weapons, or you could find and verify and maybe disable key sites. but it's not possible to dismantle or disable all their nuclear infrastructure or to redirect scientists who work on nuclear weapons to civilian jobs".

"We're here now", Trump said, according to the people.

"It's a common courtesy when a military official from another government salutes, that you return that", presidential spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters two days after Trump returned from his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

After his meeting with the despot Kim, Trump said the press was the United States' "biggest enemy".

"He's the head of a country - I mean he's the strong head, don't let anyone think any different", said Mr Trump.

Kim and Trump signed a joint statement, agreeing to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in exchange for security guarantees for the DPRK.

The United States expects Japan to play a "significant" role in shouldering the costs of North Korea's denuclearization and future economic development, given its economic power and its interest in the stabilization of Pyongyang, the USA ambassador to Japan said Friday.

At the same time, Trump expressed esteem for the forced deference North Koreans show for their leader and joked he wished "my people" would do the same.

A senior Blue House official told local reporters on condition of anonymity that although nothing has been decided yet, whether to halt the South Korea-U.S. war games would be announced soon or in the near future through close consultations between Seoul and Washington. "We had good chemistry". There is no rule that a USA president is obliged to return a salute, which is considered a sign of mutual respect, reports CNN.

Mr. Trump downplayed Kim's actions, suggesting Kim isn't alone in that.
