Trump gave the comments before departing a contentious G7 conference in Canada, during which he confronted top United States allies over trade and drew scrutiny for calling for Russian Federation to be readmitted to the group of nations - and days before his much-anticipated summit with Kim.

The president's remarks come two days after he said he "doesn't need to prepare very much" for the meeting which the US hopes will lead toward an agreement for North Korea to end its nuclear program. "Trump, who prides himself on his deal-making prowess, said he thinks he will know 'within the first minute" of meeting Kim whether the North Korean leader is serious about the nuclear negotiations. "Both the American as well as the North Koreans are pleased with the arrangements, we're all set to go and things will start happening within the next 24 hours", he said.

He had spent the days heading into the G7 summit publicly blasting French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over trade, and questioned why Russian Federation would not be present at the meeting.

However, Trump, before leaving to attend the Group of Seven summit in Canada, was asked whether Rodman was invited to Singapore and he said, "No, he wasn't".

Tensions flared at the G-7 summit between Trump and US allies over his protectionist economic policies and decisions to exit the Iran nuclear deal and Paris climate accord. "Just my touch. My feel".

"He could take that nation with those great people and truly make it great".

"I don't think I have to prepare very much". However, the United States president noted that G8 format was more meaningful than G7, adding that he would be positive if Russian Federation returns in the bloc. We're going to have to see what happens.

"President Trump has said repeatedly he's prepared to make big changes and to undertake bold action; and if Chairman Kim Jong Un is prepared to do that, so is the United States of America", Pompeo added.

Trump mused that he was willing to consider normalizing ties with North Korea, that a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War could be signed in Singapore and that a leader accused of gross human rights violations could visit the White House. "As President Trump said this week, he approaches the summit with confidence. I think Ill also know whether it will happen fast". We've had hawkish policies, we've had sanctions and so on, they don't work.

"You know if you're going to like someone in the first five seconds, you ever hear that one? But certainly if it goes well", Trump told reporters during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Since the first inkling that a Trump-Kim summit could be on the cards, Japan has repeatedly insisted that Washington be mindful not to let its guard down with the nuclear-armed regime in Pyongyang.
