Trappers who captured a gator that they believe dragged a woman into a lake while she was walking her dogs said Friday afternoon.

Trappers have spotted a 12-foot (3.5-meter) alligator in the pond in Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park, she said.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Rob Klepper said the report of the attack was still unconfirmed Friday afternoon. The dogs didn't want to leave the lake and were being cared for by Broward County Animal Care and Adoption, WSVN said.

They didn't live in the neighborhood, but often liked to find new places to walk their dogs and were often seen in the area.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife, the state has averaged five unprovoked alligator bites yearly since 1948.

The scene is several blocks southwest of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, just west of Florida's Turnpike and north of Stirling Road.
