Its addition to the global skymap will eclipse the route between Doha and New Zealand's biggest city Auckland, flown by Qatar Airways. The plane will overcome 16.7 thousand kilometers without stopping, being in the sky more than 18 hours. Still, those taking its new flight will face a literal long haul. SIA served the Singapore-Newark route until 2013, when services were suspended after the aircraft used at the time, Airbus A340-500s, were returned to Airbus.

Singapore believes the new generation of ultra-fuel-efficient twin-engine wide-bodies like the A350-900ULR will make the route profitable.

Singapore Airlines' new A350s will let it resume ultra-long range flights between Singapore and NY.

The new Airbus range features higher ceilings, larger windows and better air quality, said SIA.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has revealed new details of its planned nonstop flight to Newark, New Jersey, which will be the world's longest route. The flight from Singapore to Newark will begin October 11 with three services per week, using the first of the carrier's Airbus A350-900ULRs.

"The flights will offer our customers the fastest way to travel between the two cities". With just 161 seats, the ULRs will carry 92 fewer passengers than the rest of Singapore's A350-900 fleet.

And in a bold omission, the airline said there will be no economy seats on the flight, with only premium economy and business class seats available to passengers. There will not be any standard coach seats on the aircraft. The route will initially be scheduled three times a week, with flight departures on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Daily operations will begin from Oct 18 after an additional A350-900ULR aircraft enters service. Of those, seven will be the new ULR variant. It will take delivery of its first one in September and receive all by the end of the year.

Singapore Airlines confirmed on Wednesday that it's going to relaunch its nonstop service between NY and Singapore in October.
