Nawaz Sharif Describes NSC Statement As 'regrettable, Painful'

"There was no talk [by Nawaz] of the Mumbai attacks being planned in Pakistan", Abbasi explained. The petitioners plead that the statement of Mr Sharif amounts to treason against the country and he is liable to be proceeded against under Article 6 of the Constitution as well as sections 3 and 5 of Official Secret Act, 1923.

Sharif had admitted publicly on Friday that Pakistani terrorists were involved in the 26/11 attacks and questioned why Ajmal Kasab and nine others were allowed to cross the border to carry out the carnage in Mumbai in 2008. PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the perception is totally wrong that attackers were from Pakistan.

The United States also blames LeT for the Mumbai attacks and has offered $10 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Hafiz Saeed, who heads Muslim charity Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), which Washington says is a front for LeT.

Nawaz, when asked by a reporter on Monday to comment on the impression that India has been reluctant to provide evidence in the case, responded: "There is no shortage of evidence - there is plenty of evidence". Initial reports in the media can sometimes be inaccurate.
