The 36-year-old will join Mourinho and his backroom staff in the summer.

Mourinho hinted last week Lukaku may only be fit enough for a place on the bench at Wembley next Saturday.

"I think it will be Michael Carrick in future, when he has his badges. I am going to jump on the staff". The process of education is something I like to do.

Explaining his vision for next term, the Portuguese said: "Moving forward I will organise my coaching staff in a way where the assistant manager figure doesn't exist".

'If that second arrives, I will likely be a really proud man as a result of this man got here to me when he was a child 17 years in the past.

'It changes overnight, ' Carrick said. It's a no-brainer to try to pick people's brains to try to learn as much as I can.

Whilst not as all-action as some of his peers, such as Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard, Carrick's cool head in the middle of the park has made him one of the most consistent performers in the modern Premier League era.

'It's what this club has an obligation to do - get through to cup finals, go on to win them, lift silverware and continue to make this club even bigger'.

Former Labour cabinet minister Tessa Jowell dies aged 70
Leading Tributes to Dame Jowell was former Labour leader and ex-prime minister, Tony Blair . Gordon Brown and his wife spoke of Dame Tessa's "sheer courage and compassion for others".

"I had the issue when I signed and it was all about Roy Keane, but I was never going to replace Roy Keane because it's not how I am". It's an unbelievable place to play football.

"Whether they'd work for another manager, I don't know, but they're not working for Jose".

And it was Rashford who was the match-winner yesterday after Juan Mata squared him the ball following a sumptuous pass from Michael Carrick.

Yet there was no Anthony Martial in the squad, despite Mourinho's prior indication the Frenchman would start.

Mourinho said that he hopes Faria will come up against him in opposition in future. "He had treatment at the training ground and stayed away".

"It depends the way you want to analyse it", he told MUTV. "I am waiting for the doctor, but if it's impossible to play today, I have my doubts".

Asked if he would be at Vicarage Road next season he was upbeat.

"I'm starting to think the Mourinho factor is losing its impact and if he's not getting results in an entertainment industry then he's under pressure". I'm sure that will be the case again.
