Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will start the Spanish Grand Prix from the third row, as just two thousandths of a second split the teammates after Saturday's knockout qualifying session in Barcelona.

F1 next heads to Monaco in two weeks' time and Horner hopes Red Bull can take advantage of the famous Monte Carlo street circuit's twists and turns to be in the hunt for pole and victory.

"I lost a little bit of my front wing and it didn't seem to affect me that much at high speed, but braking into the hairpins it was easier to lock [the tyres]".

Following their clash in Baku, the two Red Bull chargers must be on their very best behaviour, and though expected to battle the Mercedes and Ferraris, and even one another, there is to be no silliness. or else. [I] felt like if you got lucky you could put in a blistering lap but yeah, probably one out of five I could make it happen and the four other laps I was sliding and yeah, struggling to stay on.

The Austrian marquee usually finds its feet after some in-season development.

"Shouldn't we be looking at the tracks and the tyre compounds and how they influence races rather than burdening the teams with what will be hundreds of millions in costs?" he continued.

"You never really know until qualifying".

Pole has added importance after Ferrari run - Hamilton
Hamilton is now standing at the top spot in the drivers' championship, maintaining a lead of just four points over Vettel. He finished down in fourth, however, almost half a second off pole and three tenths behind team-mate Vettel.

Meanwhile on the other end of the garage, Max Verstappen stuck to the Supersoft for both runs.

"We both put good laps on the Supersofts in Q3. I saw Sebastian approaching but I knew I had relatively fresh tyres so it would be hard for him to overtake, this allowed me to manage the situation quite well".

"For sure, I expect Christian to definitely have a word with us tomorrow before the race", Ricciardo said. I think Mercedes went on the soft? "We don't have that power mode".

"I don't think many people will choose the supersoft".

"I think a lot of people will choose a soft and a medium", he decided. With corners in it, it's even harder for us, because we lose even more speed because of the friction from the tires so the engine can't - we just lose more top speed. "Of course we have to keep working on our auto but of course I hope that at one point as well that we get some performance from the engine".

"Add together with my final lap I couldn't continue".
