It wasn't pretty, but Amanda Nunes dominated Raquel Pennington in the entire fight.

Saturday didn't provide almost the suspense as Nunes continually battered Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 for her seventh straight win and third since taking the belt from Miesha Tate in 2016.

Before the decisive round, Pennington was heard saying "I'm done", but her coach insisted she should return to the bout.

Clearly perturbed by being taken down in the second round, Nunes marched forward even more in the third, though she finally encountered some tough resistance.

Nunes was still landing the better strikes on the feet but Pennington hung tough during all of the exchanges despite some swelling starting to emerge on her right eye.

After a solid opening round, Nunes realized that Pennington was game. They trotted their fighter back out instead of protect her. This round was all Nunes and blood formed from the nose of Pennington. "I like and respect these girls so much, especially Tecia". Pennington wrapped up the arms of Nunes to avoid any damage. Referee Marc Goddard stopped the 135-pound title fight at the 2:36 mark of the final round inside Jeunesse Arena. This was "The Lioness'" third title defense. Gastelum poured on the strikes in the second round and got a knockdown on a stiff left hand.

A dominant fourth round saw a freaky and absurd end as at the end of the round, Pennington returned to the corner and wanted out of the fight, due to a broken twisted nose. Prior to Torres relocating to Colorado, she was a close friend and teammate with Nunes and her fiancée Nina Ansaroff so the champion admitted afterwards that this was arguably her toughest fight to date because she was facing someone she considered a friend. This was very hard for me.

Gastelum said: "I expected to win, but I wanted to finish the fight and guarantee the title shot". It was the most hard in my career.

Pennington had had enough by the end of the fourth round, but her corner persuaded her to continue the contest, although the fifth didn't last long. But I had to defend the belt.
