Boise letter carriers are dyeing their hair blue to raise awareness about this year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

It's all part of the National Association of Letter Carrier's Stamp out Hunger program.

Nieland said he wanted to stress that all food collected in Estherville stays local and will be delivered to the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Food Pantry.

Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau said, "The Town of Fairfield is proud to support the Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive once again this year".

According to the NALC, the 2017 drive brought in more than 71 million pounds of nonperishable food that was collected from postal patrons and delivered to community food banks, pantries and shelters, providing families in need with a lifeline of basic nutrition.

The second Saturday of May is right around the corner. The carriers are asking postal patrons to place the non-perishable food items near their mailboxes. People with post office boxes may leave food at their local post office.

"We urge the public to participate and to promote this effort where you work, at your church, or in social and service clubs", says Gloria Nye, speaking for the Rotary Club of Opelousas Sunrise. It's a big day to help those in need.

On Saturday help is needed at the food bank and the dock at the Post Office to help sort the bags of food that come in.

Gomez said, "We gladly take any food donations; really the only thing we ask is no expired foods please".
