Rockies roll into NY to face desperate Mets

Syndergaard didn't have his best command in this one, as he gave up four walks to go along with six hits. NY starter Steven Matz was fantastic in absorbing the loss with three hits given up through six innings pitched.

"We kind of got on the same page on what we were going do because there were a few sequences in there that we kind of didn't agree upon in the first inning where I was shaking him", Freeland said. Over his past 21 innings (three quality starts), Freeland has allowed just five runs for a 2.14 ERA.

The New York Mets have lost three in a row and seven of their last 10 games and relief might not be on its way.

"We're struggling a little bit right now, but we can go on a run tomorrow just like we did to start the season", Syndergaard said.

The Mets are 1-4 in Wheeler's last five games when he pitches the opener of a new series but are 4-1 in his last five starts overall. Three of the four hits he allowed were in the first inning so for six innings, he only allowed a single to Jose Lobaton in the second inning and walked Wilmer Flores in the fourth.

Mets left fielder Yoenis Cespedes, who had the second hit and scored the second run in the first inning, left after the inning due to a tight right hip. LHP P.J. Conlon was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. Conlon was 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in five Triple-A starts this season.
