Microsoft Build 2018: How to watch, livestream and what to expect

On the other hand, Microsoft, despite bringing significant upgrades to its service such as Cortana, has been lagging way behind the search giant - which the company sees as a direct competitor.

Microsoft's annual Build developer conference starts today (Monday, May 7) at 8:30 a.m. local Seattle time.

Artificial Intelligence was the secret sauce of every developer conference last year and this year, it will be one big story.

Windows, the company's stalwart operating system, will have a more "subdued" presence at Build this year, said Rob Sanfilippo, an analyst at independent research firm Directions on Microsoft and a former employee of the Redmond company.

At Build 2018, Microsoft might announce new mixed reality devices from its OEM partners at around $200 price tag.

Last year, Microsoft stunned the world by publicly explaining its efforts in the quantum computing space.

For Microsoft, the cloud computing and its Azure Cloud is becoming the next big cash cow. There will also be a livestream available through a dedicated Build 2018 website.
