Google's Advanced Protection Program is created to provide a very high level of account security for users such as journalists, activists, executives, and politicians, who are likely to have a higher risk of targeted attacks against their accounts, although there are no restrictions on who can enrol in the program.

The program now works over native iOS apps including Apple Mail, Calendar, and Contacts.

For those unfamiliar with Google's Advanced Protection program, it was announced a year ago where it was aimed at high-profile users who might require the additional layers of security and protection against hacking. Users who need that kind of protection can opt into this program, but in return, they have to use security keys for the 2-step verification and can only access their Google data from Google's own web and mobile apps.

Dario Salice, Advanced Protection Product Manager at Google, says the company vows to extend access to Google data to more applications in the future and roll out the program to a broader set of users worldwide.

Google has announced that its Advanced Protection Program for users that required stronger account security now supports native Apple applications on iOS. After all the security of iOS is Apple's business, right?

In addition to these updates, you'll continue to benefit from Advanced Protection's other safeguards. The Advanced Protection Program also helps block fraudulent access to your account by adding extra steps to the account recovery process to prevent people from impersonating you and pretending they've been locked out of your account.

Our goal is to make sure that any user facing an increased risk of online attacks enrolls in the Advanced Protection Program.
