Black Panther, Stranger Things Lead MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations

Superhero movie "Black Panther" scored a leading seven nominations on Thursday for the MTV Movie & TV awards, delivering a knockout punch to box-office blockbuster "Avengers: Infinity War".

The MTV Movie and TV Awards, like the channel's signature MTV Video Music Awards, celebrate pop culture moments and pride themselves on being less stuffy than the industry's benchmark Oscars and Emmys.

The global smash hit garnered seven nominations including for stars Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright and Michael B. Jordan.

Placing second with six nominations is "Stranger Things", the Netflix series about supernatural occurrences in a small town in Indiana.

Boseman and Winston Duke, who plays Wakanda warrior M'Baku, are also nominated in the Best Fight category.

The nominees for best hero are Chadwick Boseman T'Challa/Black Panther, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in "Game of Thrones", Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in "Wonder Woman", Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash in The CW's "The Flash" and Daisy Ridley as Rey in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi".

Nods include best show, best performance for Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven, best kiss, scene stealer for Billy Hargrove actor Dacre Montgomery, on-screen team and most frightened performance for Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp.

Avengers: Infinity War, Wonder Woman and Riverdale all received three nominations, while Thor: Ragnarok received two.

The awards ceremony will be hold on June 18 in Los Angeles and be hosted by actress Tiffany Haddish.

In the best show category, the '80s inspired Stranger Things competes against Game of Thrones, Riverdale, grown-ish, and Netflix's own 13 Reasons Why.
