Some school administrators walked out with their students.

On Friday, April 20th, students from all six Lincoln public high schools conducted walk-outs as part of a national campaign marking the 19th anniversary of the mass shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado.

Students we heard from say they are protesting because they do not feel safe going to school. "They don't teach you that in history class", the students said. A large number of state troopers were also on hand.

Liberty and Freedom High Schools in Bethlehem were among those that did not participate in Friday's walkout. It follows a wave of youth activism that has emerged after the February 14 shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The majority of the public responses to the march are from Democrats like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY), who wrote about the massacre that took place at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, and noted that this fight is still being waged nearly two decades later.

The students protested in solidarity, inspired by the activism of the Parkland, Florida school shooting survivors.

"Gun violence on reservation is very prevalent especially in schools and doing with the youth, there's a lot of suicides and a lot of gang violence having to do with meth and any other drug", said Stewart. "So that's one thing I advocate for".
