PM Modi to embark on 5-day visit to UK, Sweden today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Monday evening in Stockholm, Sweden on the first leg of his three-nation tour of Europe that will also see him going to Britain and Germany.

Besides the security pact, an action plan and Document on Partnership for Innovation will be issued after the Stockholm Summit between Modi and his Swedish counterpart, the persons cited earlier said, adding that Sweden is keen to boost its partnership with India to the strategic level. "Nordic competencies fit well with our vision for India's transformation", Modi said in his de parture statement. Our partnership is based on democratic values and commitment to an open, inclusive and rule-based global order. With the opposition blaming the Prime Minister for not responding on the issues that have been shaking the nation, Modi made some sensational comments. They say they want direct answers from PM Modi about why crimes against women, Dalits and minorities have increased in India.

The event, billed as the centrepiece of the "Living Bridge" theme of the India-UK bilateral visit, will involve PM Modi addressing questions from across the world which have already been received via social media and some via live video link.

A spokesperson for South Asia Solidarity Group said that around 2,000 people from all over United Kingdom are expected to gather outside Downing Street, where PM Modi will meet British PM Theresa May.

Prime Minister Modi is further scheduled to take part in the Sweden-India business day at the City hall Golden room.

On Tuesday, PM Modi will hold a bilateral summit with Swedish PM Lofven following which a number of agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries. On Sunday, the PM said the visit would help deepen bilateral ties with both the countries. The India-UK CEOs Forum will also take place during this visit.

Mr Modi will call on Queen Elizabeth II, interact briefly with CEOs of the two nations who are working on a new agenda of economic partnership, launch an Ayurveda Centre of Excellence in London, and welcome the United Kingdom into the International Solar Alliance, as its newest member.

He said, the Commonwealth is a unique multilateral grouping that not only provides useful assistance to its developing country members, particularly the small states and small-island developing states, but also has a strong worldwide voice for development issues.
