Man City win Premier League title

Jose Mourinho's men had deliciously put the brakes on Manchester City's crowning as the 2017/18 Premier League champions last Saturday at the Etihad Stadium but, against the nearly doomed Albion, they handed the title to the Blues, with Jay Rodriguez scoring the victor.

The Citizens had their fate in their own hands last weekend, but gave up a 2-0 lead at home to Manchester United, eventually losing 2-3, meaning they would have to wait for at least another eight days before being crowned champions. The prospect of Manchester City winning the title in front of them provided the fuel for a sensational comeback.

Jay Rodriguez has expressed his delight as West Bromwich Albion claimed their first Premier League win since January, a 1-0 victory at Manchester United.

The win confirmed City's place as champions of the Premier League for the 2017/18 season with five games to spare - the joint-quickest any side has won the title.

It wasn't meant to go like this for Manchester United this season.

After a mixed first season in England, Guardiola faced questions about whether his methods were a good fit for the Premier League.

There has also been a loss both of what the Games symbolised, as well as outside political factors. The hockey teams returned empty handed after losing their bronze-medal play-offs to England.

Mourinho called his players the "masters of complicated football" but that was being generous after one of the more startling displays of his two years in charge.

City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, a candidate for Player of the Year, said: "Unbelievable season for us".

"We've won the league for you, Man City, Man City", West Brom's fans chanted after the final whistle.

West Brom: Foster, Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips (Krychowiak 77), Livermore, Brunt (Yacob 90), McClean, Rodriguez, Rondon (Sturridge 85). "I knew that sooner or later they would be (champions) and if I was in their position I would be very upset if someone said they won the title because Manchester United lost against West Brom". It is also amongst the reasons why United fell so much behind City and why they would have so many different performances in short spaces of time. By the hour mark, Mourinho had brought on attacking players Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial for central midfielders Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba but things didn't really improve. "I am pleased we managed to show everyone that".

When his first touch wasn't heavy, he found Ben Foster an impenetrable barrier as the West Brom goalkeeper produced impressive saves from Lukaku in each half.
