"The resignations at the IEBC are a symptom of an incurable and cancerous disease that bedevils the commission".

Three IEBC commissioners have resigned with immediate effect.

The resignation comes after Chebukati suspended CEO Ezra Chiloba over irregularities in the procurement process.

In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, Orengo demanded the disbandment of the entire commission since it has failed accountability, efficiency and accuracy tests as stipulated in the constitution.

The trio, Vice-Chairman Consolata Nkatha, Commissioners Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya, told a hurriedly-convened press conference in Nairobi that for far too long and way too many times Wafula Chebukati, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman, has failed to be the steady and stable hand that steers the ship in hard times and gives directions when needed.

The three claim the IEBC under the leadership of Wafula Chebukati is dysfunctional.

Akombe cited interference from political players and lack of independence among Commissioners.

The fallout now leaves it with chair Wafula Chebukati, Prof.

"The chairman has, in several instances, failed to be the steady and stable hand to steer the commission ship", the statement added.

One of the three officials who resigned was the vice chairman of the body.

Last year's election re-run raised fears of a return to political violence in Kenya where more than 1 200 people were killed after a disputed poll in 2007, although President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga appeared to put their fierce rivalry behind them last month.

On Friday, Chiloba moved to court seeking orders to suspend Chebukati orders, but the labour court declined.

Commissioner Roselyn Akombe was the first to call it quit on October 18 a year ago, a week to the October 26 repeat presidential poll.

After the resignation of the IEBC officials, the commission's head Chebukati has called for a crisis meeting with the remaining officials.
