The National Weather Service said the tornado watch, which covers much of central and western North Carolina, will expire at 11 p.m.

A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area.

Forecasters at the weather service said rain-cooled air may help ease the severe threat - somewhat - over parts of northwest Alabama.

Sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures kick off the new workweek with highs in the lower 50s on Monday to the middle 60s by Tuesday through Thursday.

Oh, and before the late-season snowstorm and cold temps hit, the area will likely be getting rain and thunderstorms through the day Friday.

The strongest storms will produce heavy rain, hail and damaging wind gusts.
