It's the highest tally in 995 days, with diesel prices rising 3 cents to hit $3 per gallon Monday. According to GasBuddy, prices in Colorado rose a little over six cents in the last week. AAA says it was the third consecutive week that the Ann Arbor area had the highest average price.

February predictions of $4-a-gallon gasoline in California by Memorial Day stalled a bit in March, but prices are climbing again, and not just in California.

Looking state-by-state, the largest weekly changes in average gas prices were seen in: MI (+12 cents), Utah (+9 cents), Idaho (+8 cents), Nebraska (+8 cents), Georgia (+7 cents), IL (+7 cents), West Virginia (+7 cents), Missouri (+7 cents), Texas (+7 cents) and Tennessee (+7 cents).

Even under ideal circumstances, Golden State gas prices were primed to rise.

The Dearborn-based auto club said late Sunday that the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $2.78 per gallon.

Regardless of the recent rise in prices, we're still no where near what we were paying in 2013 and 2014, where the average price of gas hovered around the $3.55 a gallon mark.

Be prepared to pay more at the pump, AAA Western and Central New York reported Monday that the national gas price jumped five cents in a week with similar trends here in New York State. US oil inventories still remain almost 20 percent lower than a year ago as exports remain brisk and OPEC's continued production cuts eat away the previous glut of crude oil. Although Syria is not a major oil producer, AAA says tension in the country could ripple to other countries in the region and restrict global oil supply flows.

DeHaan said that OPEC's production cuts have removed more than 500 million barrels - about 1.8 million per day - of supply since they were enacted at the start of 2017. Demand remained strong last week as well.

"The seasonal surge at gas pumps is in full motion, causing the most dreaded time of year for fearful motorists, especially of what may still be coming", he said.

Gas prices are continuing to rise in Decatur and the state.

"That could be very close to what we expect this time around", DeHaan said.
