Middlesex firefighters were called to a grass fire at 2 p.m. Saturday that caught the side of a garage on fire at 361 Browns Hill Road, according to 911 reports.

Fire Chief Steve Scholl said about one acre of ground was burned in that blaze.

Burrell Assistant Chief Craig Davis said one of his department's firefighters was OK, but overexerted himself and had trouble breathing.

Dry conditions and high winds were contributing to brush fires around the region Friday. Arriving units say the fire is affecting at least a quarter acre of land and is rapidly spreading.

Just before noon Saturday, emergency personnel were called to the area near the intersection of Valley Road and Highridge Park Road, Cass Township, for a brush fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but crews believe it to be accidental.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.
