FDA: Millions of eggs being recalled due to potential health risk

So far, 22 people have gotten sick from the eggs.

The recall was issued through an "abundance of caution" due to reported illnesses in the East Coast.

The eggs that are part of the recall can be identified by the plant number, P-1065, with the Julian date range of 011 through 102 printed on either the side portion or the principal side of the carton or package.

If you love eggs from your head to your legs, make sure you check to see if the eggs in your refrigerator are on this recall list.

"Consumers with these eggs shouldn't eat them", says Scott Gottlieb, the FDA Commissioner.

"Healthy individuals infected with salmonella braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain", the website states. "The facility includes 3 million laying hens with a USDA inspector on-site daily", said the FDA. While most recover without treatment, according to the release, the elderly and young children are most likely to suffer severe illness.

The eggs come from Rose Acre Farms out of Seymour, Indiana and are sold in nine states, including Colorado.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that salmonella infections cause about 1.2 million illnesses and 450 deaths every year in the United States.

More than 200 million eggs were recalled by an IN farm operation after a report of 22 illnesses IN connection with a salmonella outbreak.

Rose Acre Farms officials didn't immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Multiple brand names sell the potentially contaminated eggs, including, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Nelms, Crystal Farms, Coburn Farms, Sunshine Farms, Glenview and Great Value.

"The eggs that are in the stores today are safe", she said by phone.
