INCIDENTS: Premier League match between Newcastle United and Arsenal, held at St James' Park in Newcastle.

Arsene Wenger has questioned the Premier League's decision to delay the implementation of video assistant referees after Arsenal were denied a penalty against Newcastle United.

After taking the lead, the visitors took control of the game for the next ten minutes or so and they nearly got a second goal when a good passing move ended with Alex Iwobi forcing a good save from Martin D├║bravka.

The Lascelles incident did not distract from a poor showing from the Gunners in the second half, in which Matt Ritchie struck the game's crucial third goal to condemn the visitors to a fifth away defeat in a row in the top flght for the first time since 1984.

Ayoze Perez equalised just before the half-hour mark, running in past Shkodran Mustafi, to guide in DeAndre Yedlin's cross at the near post. The 18-year-old midfielder might have marked his debut with a first-half goal, but fluffed his lines with just goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to beat when he miskicked from Lacazette's inviting pass.

The result sees Arsenal stay sixth and means they are the same number of points - 33 - above bottom-of-the-table West Brom as they are behind leaders Manchester City.

Just to rub it in, Matt Ritchie then sealed the three points in Newcastle's favour when Islam Slimani's headed pass bobbled through to him on the edge of the Arsenal 18-yard box via a Perez flick and the midfielder obliged by clipping home the victor.

Slimani was again in the thick of the action soon after as he found Perez in the area, who tried twice to hit the target, and came close at the second attempt with a shot into the side-netting.
