Millcreek Township School District handed out mini baseball bats to 500 teachers after they attended a day of training on how to respond to school shootings.

Hrubik, a teacher at Longfellow Middle School in Norman, was among teachers and parents who showed up at the capitol on Friday despite the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) announcing an end to the walkout on Thursday. It's calling on teachers to go back to the classroom.

President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) Pedro Shepherd relayed the message during the recently held 44th Annual General Conference (AGM) of the BUT at Almond Bay Conference Centre.

Priest said that while the walkout is ending, their fight for increased funding will continue, with a shift in their focus. Multiple teachers insisted that they did not want to fund education by imposing regressive taxes on working-class families, let alone through other budget cuts to essential services like mental health.

"We blame it on the teachers, and we blame it on this and we blame it on that", Jerden told CNN.

The Oklahoma Education Association gave legislators until late April to provide new revenues or face a walkout, but teachers protested and pushed the union to adopt an April 1 deadline.

Royer said House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, refused to meet with her.

"For urban districts, state aid is not as stable, so it is more hard to provide services", Watson said.

That raises public school spending to $2.9 billion next school year, up from $2.4 billion this year. By passing that, lawmakers hoped to head off the pending teacher walkout.

Fallin drew the ire of teachers and education supporters several times throughout the walkout, mostly for belittling teacher demands for additional education funding by comparing them to 'a teenage kid that wants a better vehicle'.

The demonstration Friday morning had a festival-like atmosphere as teachers sat in lawn chairs or sprawled out on blankets. "We're going to put them in a room and we're going to make that happen".

Parkland school officials chose to require all students to carry clear plastic backpacks as one safety measure.

It could even, we guess, get them suspended or fired, given that teachers have no collective bargaining agreement and no formal labor representation. Reporters at the capitol said that in the past couple days, crowds began to shrink.

Hundreds of teachers have gathered on the front steps of the Capitol before a 9 a.m. rally.

For obvious safety reasons, the school does NOT have to release which teachers are carrying guns. Fallin also signed a bill that raised education funding over the next fiscal year by $50 million. Could we be putting too much emphasis on test scores and not really evaluating the progress our children our making? If they are not, he said schools should send delegates.

Low wages have created an exodus of educators, causing a teacher shortage in Oklahoma.
