UP assures fair probe against MLA accused of rape

The FIR has been registered under sections 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Maksi police station, the officer said.

The police in the northern Indian state said the Central Bureau of Investigation would take a call on when to arrest him. The alleged rape case came into the limelight after the victim tried to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence on Sunday after alleging police inaction against the BJP MLA. The case sparked new headlines after her father on Monday died of injuries reportedly sustained while in police custody.

The UP government chose to lodge FIR against the BJP MLA and refer the case to the CBI after the Special Investigation Team submitted its report on Wednesday evening.

The court then asked the Advocate General whether the government proposes to arrest Sengar. BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Sengar charged with minor's rape. The MLA's brother has already been arrested owing to his involvement in the death of girls father, along with other policemen.

Even the Allahabad High Court had taken a strong notice of the delay in the MLA's arrest on Thursday and had reserved its order for Friday in the case which the court had taken up suo motu on Wednesday. Singh said the SIT will collect evidence until the CBI takes over the probe. Meanwhile, the rape victim had appealed that she be given complete justice.

The court referred to the SIT report and said, "according to it, medical officers and police officers, all were hand in glove with the accused to save them and you acted on this report against those officers but for arresting rape accused you need to do further investigation".

He has been taken to the CBI office here where he is now being interrogated.
