Ripple Invests $25 million in VC Firm Blockchain Capital

Fintech startup Ripple divulged an investment of $25 million Dollars worth of its own currency XRP in Blockchain Capital - a venture firm that specializes in blockchain and crypto projects. Ripple's in-house tokens were placed into the specifically-created cryptocurrency-only vehicle called Blockchain Capital Parallel IV. Not only that, the investment is expected to provide an opportunity to identify new use cases for the XRP Ledger and Interledger Protocol, Ripple has said.

Blockchain Capital is a venture capital firm dedicated to further advancing blockchain development technology.

Last month, Ripple partnered with Banking group Santander to release an global money transfer app using Ripple's blockchain xCurrent and RippleNet platforms. In addition, Ripple is now the most adopted cryptocurrency by banks and financial services, with SBI Holdings in Japan and the Saudi Central Bank being two of the larger names on the list. Also in March, Ripple donated $29 million worth of XRP to DonorsChoose.org to help fund school supplies for students in the US public school system.

As the ecosystem around blockchain continues to expand and develop, Ripple will look to support new use cases of the technology including more investments in business use cases developed by entrepreneurial teams and funds. Blockchain Capital wants to use XRP in different fields like healthcare which they can believe can benefit largely from the distributed ledger technology.

Putting speculations to rest once and for all, one of Ripple's top executives told a financial daily that XRP is not a security.

"As pioneers in the blockchain sector, we have been on the frontlines and in the trenches with our portfolio companies, like Ripple, building a new crypto ecosystem".

The investment should provide a window into the ways the company's blockchain as well as its digital token XRP could be utilized outside of payments, according to Ripple's blog.

Ripple has previously shown its interest in investing in other companies and in contributing charitable donations.
