Newton wins Best Hindi film at 65th National Awards

Indian cinema legend Sridevi was recognized as best actress for her role in the film "Mom" at the Indian National Film Awards that were announced on Thursday. "It feels incredible to know that the whole country thought my role in "Newton" was one of my best and to win the Special Mention Award at the highest film award in India is just exhilarating", he added.

Pankaj Tripathi, who played the role of a CRPF officer in the film, won a Special Mention at the National Film Awards for his performance.

In a career spanning over four decades, Sridevi had featured in films like Sadma, Gumrah, and English Vinglish among the many other films that saw her versatility as an actor.

Sridevi, whose filmography spanned across 50 years and in 300 films in languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, was recognised for her role of an angry mother seeking justice for her daughter in rape revenge drama, "Mom". He said, the standard of the regional cinema is world-beating. Ecstatic by this, the Newton actor says, "I am absolutely delighted".

Malayalam movie Aalorukam won the award for the best film on social issues, while Hindi detective thriller Irada emerged as the best film on environment conservation.
