DA gives De Lille blessing to change parties

This is not the first time De Lille has been linked to the EFF, but the party's leader, Julius Malema, denied that De Lille might be joining it.

The DA notes the reports that the party has taken a decision to charge Cape Town Mayor, Patricia De Lille, over her attendance of the EFF's Memorial Service in honour of Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

It seems the DA's Patricia De Lille is in hot water with the party once again.

This follows a petition by the DA requesting de Lille explain her reasons for attending the event.

De Lille on Wednesday attended a memorial service organised by the EFF in the Free State town of Brandfort, where Madikizela-Mandela was banished by the apartheid government for eight years.

"Free State DA provincial leader Patricia Komape and DA members in the Free State were at the memorial service as well", Shivambu reacted on Twitter.

Nt'sekhe said De Lille broke protocol by not informing the DA, even if she had attended in her personal capacity.

"Mama believed that the politics of our people has no political party", she said. "People would love to know about Winnie", she said.

However, the party does want De Lille to explain why she did not notify it of her attendance.

The DA regularly receives invitations from other political parties to address events or rallies and this is not in any way unusual. "De Lille is well-suited to speak at the memorial".

He would pay his respects at the official funeral on Saturday. This comes following speculation that her attendance at the EFF-hosted event could spell a party change on the party of the Mayor.

At the service, De Lille spoke fondly of Madikizela-Mandela and about her strength and contribution to the struggle.
