According to the YouGov poll, Bill Gates is the most admired man in the world, receiving 9.9 percent of the total vote.

The tech mogul and the actress-turned-humanitarian have topped the list, compiled by YouGov- a market research company based in London - since separate male and female categories were introduced in 2015.

United States president Barack Obama, actor Jackie Chan and Chinese president Xi Jinping, Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey along with actors Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were among those featured on the list.

The list includes 20 men and 20 women, chosen as a result of online interviews in which more than 37,000 people from 35 countries participated.

There are people from the entertainment field in the women's list while the males have business leaders and athletes. The study named Angelina Jolie the most admired woman in the world.

Indian PM Narendra Modi was amongst other politicians featured, as were US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Erdogan. The woman United Kingdom folk most admire, again unsurprisingly, is the queen, with Michelle Obama in second place and Judi Dench in third. In fact, the last USA president ranks higher than the incumbent in all countries surveyed bar one: Russian Federation.

Conclusively, Bill Gates and Angelina Jolie both have emerged at top positions of the list every year since it has been conducted. Former President Barack Obama was ranked the number one most admired man in the United States, with 24 percent of the votes. While Gates and Obama hold on to their spots from last year, Donald Trump and Warren Buffett, two figures lauded for their business acumen, improved their ranks from last year.

Jolie, also a film director and UNHCR special envoy, is followed by Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth II, Hillary Clinton, Emma Watson, Malala Yousafzai, Angela Merkel, Taylor Swift and Madonna in top 10 of the 20 most admired women.
