AIADMK's Rajya Sabha M.P. Navaneethakrishnan has stated that the party MPs would contemplate committing "mass suicide" if the Centre doesn't set up a Cauvery Management Board as per Supreme Court's directions.

The central government might file a petition by the end of the week in the Supreme Court seeking clarity on the apex court's February 16 order on the sharing of Cauvery waters, according to a senior official in the water resources ministry.

"My appeal to the prime minister is, please sir, you have the authority to create this CMB and you must do it".

TTV Dinakaran, chief of the newly formed Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), and his party leaders had started a hungerstrike in Chennai on Sunday demanding constitution of the Cauvery Management Board. "I sincerely hope justice will prevail".

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday said he believed the Centre was delaying the formation of the Cauvery water management board due to the upcoming Karnataka elections. "For so many years, we have been pleading for water". Both AIADMK and DMK have been demanding that the Modi government do that at the earliest. "Neither do they consider the plight of Tamil Nadu farmers nor do they respect the SC order". But with the six weeks time that was allotted to the Centre ending on March 29, the state government which has been taking an easy approach putting their complete faith on the Centre is facing the flak in the state.

Panneerselvam further assured that the Tamil Nadu government will never let the state down.

PMK Founder Dr S. Ramadoss also flayed the Centre for allegedly not abiding by the Supreme Court order and said the Tamil Nadu people will not pardon it for betraying the state's interests. In fact the accusation that the state government is just a shadow government has now intensified.

"The Union government, instead of filing a clarification plea in the Supreme Court, should set up the CMB and the CWRC as the deadline ends tonight", he said in a statement.
