Karnataka Congress, BJP bicker over 'outsiders' in Rajya Sabha polls

Both the parties are in a position to send two candidates each to the Rajya Sabha, as the minimum number of votes required per candidate is 38.

It is being said that Rathwa could not file his nomination papers due to lack of important documents. However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala accused the BJP of playing a motivated games and said,"The BJP played this lowly game during Ahmed Patel's election and now again". Hours after Congress announced its candidates, rumours began to do rounds that one of them, Naran Rathwa, would be replaced.

Among the seven nominations accepted was BJP's dummy candidate Rajnikant Patel. Surprisingly, BJP leader and former minister Kiritsinh Rana too arrived with the saffron party's mandate. The four candidates who filed nomination for Maharashtra are Union Human Resource Minister Prakash Javdekar, former CM Narayan Rane, V Murlidharan and state women commission's Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

Today was the last date for scrutiny of nominations while March 15 is the last day for withdrawal of candidature. L.Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and G.C. Chandrashekar-for the 23 March Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka in what seems to be a carefully planned caste balance strategy from the party. The Congress also chose to back Independent candidate PK Valera.

If reports are to be believed, the party has chose to replace Rathwa with Shukla at the instructions of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

The third candidate of the Congress is expected to emerge victorious with the likely support of seven JD (S) rebels and B R Patil of the Karnataka Janata Paksha, independent MLA B.R. Nagendra, and Ashok Kheny (Karnataka Makkala Paksha).
