In an effort to make it simpler for users, Google India on March 13 has announced a string for updates and features on Maps. Maps in India has supported Plus codes for some months now, and these will now be reflected in addresses and businesses as well. While some addresses are well-defined by street names and house numbers that are easy to find, others can be long-winded and hard to locate.

According to Google, Plus Codes are based on latitude and longitude - the grid that can be used to describe every point on the planet. Ruhela told ET these codes have the potential of replacing people entering long addresses during online shopping or food ordering, and that Google will explore these partnerships later on. They are unique in format, and vary across regions, localities, and use cases.

The Plus Codes concept divides the address into tiny "tiled areas" and assigns a unique code to each place. The tech giant introduced "Plus Codes" which is an open sourced solution representing a simple and consistent addressing system and works not only in India but globally.

"At Google Maps, our objective has always been about organizing all location-related information, and making it more accessible and relevant for Indian users", Ruhela added, saying that it is especially challenging in India.

The Lok Sabha was scheduled to take up the Finance Bill 2018-19 and Appropriation bills for FY 2017-18 and 2018-19. When the House reassembled at noon, the protests continued and no legislative business could be carried out.

Goole has also introduced new "Add an Address" option on Google Maps.

" If you want to see the Plus Code location: -When you receive the Plus Code, copy it to your clipboard -Open Google Search, paste it and hit search -In the result, tap on the location and voila Similarly you can paste it in Google Maps" search bar itself and see the location. The other reality is that millions of people and places in India are hard to locate - especially those in remote areas. Thankfully, our very own Google has solution to all these problems. With "Add an Address' feature, Google is aiming to bring those locations on its map that have been missing till so far. We are deeply committed to helping find solutions to these challenges".

The Plus Codes kind of works akin to the location sharing feature. "Plus Codes can be used for a wide variety of reasons including communicating the venue of a temporary event, guiding emergency services to afflicted locations, and providing an identifiable location for complicated addresses", the company said in a statement. This code simply comprises a "6-character + City" format that can be generated, shared and searched by anyone - all that's needed is Google Maps on a smartphone. The innovative approach provides the best estimate of the location of an address, when people aren't aware of an exact address.

Lastly, voice navigation of Google Maps India expands to six additional languages after Hindi and English. This feature enables you to contribute to the Maps experience from the Maps.
