Man Utd's midfielder to retire at end of the season

"You can't live like you've had a career before you've had the career - you've got to earn it".

Carrick will be hoping to add to his medal-laden CV before the end of the season - a campaign the veteran confirmed will be his last as a player before taking up manager Jose Mourinho's offer to join the coaching staff.

The former England global made the announcement at United's press conference on Monday ahead of the Champions League last-16, second-leg match against Sevilla. That's pretty much where I'm at, which is fine.

"I think it's pretty much already been said, to be honest with you", he replied when asked whether he was retiring. "That's where I'm at".

"(Pogba) did (train) after you left", Mourinho said. He's only seen action a handful of times this season, but on the eve of United's hosting Sevilla with a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal berth at stake, Carrick still maintains that he'll play a role with the current team before season's end.
