After all the discussion of whether Rashford is fading away under Mourinho at Man United, the Special One threw him a start against Liverpool and he kindly paid him back with a brilliant brace to win the staunch rivalry.

Marcus Rashford talks through his two goals in Man United's 2-1 win over Liverpool and the patience required in making his return to Jose Mourinho's XI.

Later that evening, on BT Sport show Premier League Tonight, De Boer said it was a "pity" that Rashford was playing under Mourinho, that the 20-year-old would receive more playing-time under a different manager, as Mourinho's only focus is gaining a result.

Furthermore, the signing of Romelu Lukaku has seen the Englishman deployed as a winger on numerous occasions, and De Boer does not believe Mourinho has the patience to allow Rashford the necessary room to develop.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has absolutely blasted Frank de Boer after the Dutch coach criticised Mourinho's handling of striker Marcus Rashford.

Those words incurred the wrath of Mourinho, who dubbed De Boer the "worst manager in Premier League history" and now the club have come to their manager's aid with the supposed "myth-busting stat".

The first leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, as iterated earlier, ended in a goalless draw that had very little quality. Their recent home wins against Chelsea and Liverpool have all but cemented their Champions League spot for the next season.

"Tomorrow is a very hard match, we are playing against a team that didn't lose against Liverpool home and away", said Mourinho. I try to give the best to the kids, education. I have to be honest and give the credit to the people of the academy that were responsible for his formation, and to Mr [Louis] Van Gaal who was responsible for his first season. "I'm really happy with Marcus".

It gets even worse in the Champions League, where Rashford has played a part in seven games, but started just two of them.

Mourinho also mocked de Boer and said if Rashford played under him he would "learn how to lose".

Rashford could retain his place when United take on Sevilla at Old Trafford with the tie poised at 0-0.
