Police had initially warned anyone who may have purchased cocaine from a drug dealer named "Lil Joe" or "Joe Bro" or have contacted a dealer with the number 306-881-7300, that the drug they purchased could be laced with fentanyl. At about 7:30 the first home on Murphy Crescent, they found two men, aged 21 and 24 suffering from apparent drug overdoses. A 27-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man overdosed.

Drug dealers in the USA and Canada have been cutting cocaine with the super-strong opioid fentanyl - causing a spate of deaths, police have said.

In the media release, police say they are not looking to charge anyone in possession of this cocaine, but "we are interested in the health and safety of the public". Both were taken to hospital, but the man later died. Three of them are recovering, but a 25-year-old woman remains unresponsive, police said in a news release. One, a 48-year-old, has since died. After raiding the residence of one of the men, police recovered a firearm, $14,210 in cash and 11.16 grams of fentanyl-laced cocaine, among other drugs.

That night, police arrested a 29-year-old man at about 10:15 p.m.

Charges include possession for the objective of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a prohibited weapon and failure to comply with recognizance.

A string of overdoses in the north east of England were also linked to the drug, when dealers began mixing fentanyl with heroin in order to increase the amount of money they could make.

Police arrested another man shortly after midnight and he faces a charge of trafficking a controlled substance, police said in the release. The third was arrested at about 5 a.m. Sunday after police and the tactical support unit executed a search warrant at an address on the 100 block of Pawlychenko Lane.
